A Canadian Company Fined Almost $20,000 For OHS Breach
Rack Petroleum Limited, a fertilizer plant located near Biggar, pleaded guilty to one charge under Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety legislation in Biggar Provincial Court.
The company was fined a total of $19,600.
The charges related to an April 21, 2010 incident in which a worker was seriously injured when his arm was caught in a conveyer belt pulley. The company was charged with failure to ensure that a safeguard on a conveyer belt pulley remained in place at all times.
Five additional charges against Rack Petroleum Limited were stayed.
The Canadian Occupational Health and Safety conduct about 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced, and investigate where workers are killed or seriously injured in a work related incident.
