AI Group Says Safety First is its Motivation Behind Supporting Harmonising OHS Laws
Ai Group has put an enormous amount of effort into the harmonisation of OHS laws recognising that safety should come first, says Ai Group chief executive Heather Ridout.
Ridout states the regulatory impact statement (RIS) for proposed national model work health and safety laws, is further confirmation of the benefits of introducing a consistent set of safety laws across Australia.
"Achieving the outcome on time is regarded by us as a litmus test of how serious we are in Australia to achieving the so called seamless economy,” said Ridout.
"The RIS shows an annual net benefit of a quarter of a billion dollars in improved safety outcomes with reduced red tape – which is precisely the motivation behind Ai Group’s support for harmonisation,” she said.
Companies who only operate in one state will reportedly face an estimated cost under $3.30 per worker each year.
This follows Senator Chris Evan’s statement earlier today, claiming the RIS for the harmonisation of health and safety regulations is the economic benefit of a national OHS system, and demonstrates the reforms are on track.
