Businesses fail blitz

WorkSafe Victoria issued 163 improvement notices to small businesses during a safety blitz in Mildura recently.

WorkSafe Victoria visited 98 Mildura workplaces in five days in late September.

'Although we wrote to the businesses and told them we would be visiting, we still had to pull them up on a high number of health and safety issues,' WorkSafe Victoria's Manufacturing and Logistics Director Ross Pilkington said.

Improvement notices were issued for the incorrect storage of dangerous goods, damaged or faulty electrical tools and wiring, forklift maintenance, machinery guarding, poor housekeeping, manual handling (lifting, pushing and pulling), lack of perimeter guarding on mezzanine floors and failing to display safe working load on shelving.

WorkSafe will return to Mildura over the next month to check that the safety breaches have been fixed.
