National compo boosted

A national strategy group is to be established and a national forum held in March next year to facilitate the development of harmonised workers compensation laws.

Safe Work Australia (SWA) agreed to establish the Strategic Issues Group on Workers’ Compensation (SIG-Workers’ Compensation) at its recent meeting in Melbourne.

The SIG-Workers’ Compensation group will provide advice on the development and implementation of a national workers’ compensation action plan among a range of other priorities.

SWA is also organising a National Workers’ Compensation Forum to be held March 30 and 31.

The forum will canvass the views of stakeholders and experts to help develop the national action plan.

SWA members and the Workplace Relations Ministers’ Council (WRMC) will formally consider the action plan later in 2010.
