Victoria’s Work-Related Death Toll Rises To 12

A 62-year-old man has died after a tree fell on him at a farm in Mingay, south Skipton, in western Victoria, bringing the death toll in Victoria to 12.

The incident occurred when the contractor was working with two others to remove blue gums on the property, but the tree fell on to a four-wheel drive and the man who was standing nearby, according to WorkSafe.

A 27-year-old man who was also in the vehicle was taken to Ballarat Hospital for observation.

WorkSafe is investigating the death; it’s the second fatality involving tree-felling work this year.

In April, at Apsley near the South Australian border, a man died when a pine tree fell on to an excavator.
