Victorian city workers slightly healthier than regional workers

WORKSAFE Victoria Minister Tim Holding says a health check of 120, 000 workers in the state found city workers are slightly healthier than country workers.

The analysis of the WorkHealth checks yielded alarming statistics, according to the Minister, showing the importance of health checks and healthy lifestyles for workers from both the city and the country.

Workers in regional Victoria are more likely to have a waist measurement indicating a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease, have high blood pressure, drink alcohol at risky levels and smoke.

Meanwhile, workers based in Melbourne are more likely to not get enough exercise and eat less than the recommended servings of fruit and vegetables.

Holding says every Victorian worker would have the opportunity to have a WorkHealth check. They are free, quick and confidential.
